2024 WATERMARK ART CONTEST WINNER

Mark Robinson

Mark has been a long time supporter and active member of the Arts Consortium. You can find his brilliant stone carving pieces at the Arts Consortium annual Taste The Arts festival and the South Valley Art Tour.

“My grandmother was a full-time painter, and my father carved in wood. Both allowed me to watch them create, and it fascinated me from the time I was very young. My elementary and high school years featured art classes, projects, and personal sketch books filled with athletes, monsters, heroes, and villains. My college years were filled with art classes and my second love, sports. My college art depicted my favorite sports and athletes, and my first stonework piece.

In 2002 I began working for Visalia Granite and Marble and attended my first Rock Camp rock carving clinic in 2006, in Elberton Georgia. In stone I find the challenge and expression I had been seeking in my art. Acquiring the specialized tools was a journey on its own, and each tool brings with it a list of skills and techniques that open new possibilities in my work.

I continue to attend carving clinics, follow instruction through videos, communicate with other artists and work to reach a new level of expressing myself in granite. I will continue this path as there is so much to learn and so little time.”

PAST WATERMARK ART CONTEST WINNERS

The Watermark Art Contest started as an art contest for a Taste The Arts poster and the art would have also been featured as the Watermark magazine’s cover. Through the years, one thing has stayed consistent — great art from great artists!
