Toni Best has been a creator and advocate of basketry for over sixty years. Specializing in pine needle and pine needles coiled on gourds, Toni has been creating pieces which stretch her imagination and are “outside” the box. She utilizes her Masters of Music Degree to “hear” the music as she coils. She was juried into the NBO All Things Considered VIII, Basketry Now 2019, invited to teach at Arrowmont’s School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN, and Pocosin’s School of Fine Crafts in Columbia, NC. Toni also teaches at her home studio, Nevada, Washington State, Arizona as well as festivals and conferences around the state of California. Her work will be shown at Attentive Gestures with Nishiki Sugawara-Beda and Maria Madacky at the College of the Sequoias Art Gallery in 2020. She was the recipient of the Marjorie Brandon Artist Award 2019 in Visalia, and the featured artist for the Arts Consortium of Tulare County in 2018.
